What Freedom Means to Me: Autonomy, Adventure and Money Moves

Freedom. It’s a word that holds so much power and deep meaning for many of us. For me, freedom means not having to answer to anyone or anything. It’s about owning my time and living life on my own terms. Here’s a closer look at what freedom means to me.

1. Autonomy: Owning My Time
If you ask me about my top three values, I’ll tell you, “Autonomy, autonomy, autonomy.” For me, personal freedom is all about being in control of my own life. It’s about making my own decisions without answering to anyone (besides my wife and family of course.). I cherish the ability to wake up without an alarm clock, knowing that my day is mine to do as I please. Freedom in this regard means that when I wake up, I only have to decide whether I roll over or roll out. There’s a crazy sense of satisfaction in being able to choose creativity over certainty. I feel powerful knowing that only I decide how to spend my time, whether it’s dream chasing, training, or simply taking a moment to breathe.

2. Freedom from the Criminal Justice System
Another significant level of freedom for me is being free from the chains of the criminal justice system. I spent 20 years in the system so not being in prison or under court supervision is a blessing that I never take for granted. It’s about having the chance to start fresh, rebuild, and live a life where my past doesn't prevent me from having a future. This freedom allows me to focus on growth, becoming the best man that I can be, and helping others find their own paths to freedom.

3. Financial Independence: Living Life on the Left Side of the Menu
Financial freedom is a huge piece of my definition of freedom. It means living life on the left side of the menu, not the right – choosing what I want without worrying about the cost. It’s about having the money to explore new countries and cultures, and to do what I please without the constant worry of money and bills. Being financially free allows me to live a life of experiences and wonder, giving me and my family the freedom to explore the world around us when we see fit.

Reflecting on Your Own Freedom
I invite you to take a moment and reflect on your own definition of freedom. What does it mean to you? Is it about having the autonomy to make your own choices, being free from past constraints, or achieving financial independence? Whatever your definition, I encourage you to strive for it and embrace the journey.

Your Journey to Freedom
Everyone’s path to freedom is different. It’s a personal journey that requires a lot of thought and determination. As you noodle on what freedom means to you, think about the steps you can take to achieve it. Whether it’s making changes in your daily routine, setting financial goals, or finding ways to break free from negative self talk, every small step brings you closer to your vision of freedom.
